audition details

GO, DOG. GO! will run weekends, April 27-May 6, 2012 at the Peace Center Gunter Theatre.
SCHOOL DAY PERFORMANCES are scheduled for Fri, May 4

Director: Kim Granner
Music Director: Steve Griner

For this production we are looking for 9 years old to adult for all roles.
Anticipated cast size = 12 actors + musicians (who will be onstage).

All cast members must have excellent physicality for pantomime/movement. They must be very facially expressive and very character driven. Actors like Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball, Red Skelton, Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Dick Van Dyke, etc. all have strong physicality and are good references if auditionees need ideas of what this show will require. Pantomime should not be "dog-like" however. Quoting the "Note on 'Dogs'" from the script: "One of consummate and lasting joys of P.D. Eastman's book is that there is almost nothing "dog-like" in the behavior of these dogs! There is no evidence in the book of "barking" - no "panting" or "scratching" or "yelping" whatsoever. It is the intention of this adaptation to honor that essential quality: and, therefore, these "dog-like" traits should not be part of the performance vocabulary of the play. At heart, these characters are creatures that look like dogs - but perform their tasks in very human ways."

All cast members must have excellent physicality for pantomime/movement and good comedic timing, and all actors will sing in character (funny singing is OK)-musicians don’t have to sing.

AVAILABLE ROLES

6 main characters will be cast from teens/adults.
6 younger cast members will be used throughout as extras.
Musicians will be integrated into the onstage action throughout the show. Specific instrumentation is TBD, but proficiency is a must

Musicians may elect to skip the vocal audition if only hoping to be considered as a musician, but will still need to perform a 15 second pantomime. All auditionees will need to show that they can express themselves using only their facial expressions and body in order to "say" what they want to say.
