*Saturday Exploration/Story Drama Crossover Story Drama will be taught for the first 5 weeks. Story Drama is a great preparation for literacy and problem solving, this class allows the students to explore themes, characters and environments of a different children’s book each week. Students act-out and perform creatively through the world of the book, but the focus is more on understanding the parts of the book and overcoming obstacles creatively within a group rather than in simple individual performance. Fantastic for group interaction and socialization while keeping students engaged at solving the conflict presented in the literature. Students begin to learn literary concepts and are called upon to summarize (in group discussion) the main idea and details from the source material (central idea, narration, how pictures are sources of information that give us clues to words and how they support the text, distinguish between fact and opinion, use of repetition, dialogue, imagery) and draw conclusions for solving the problem. Great fun and great foundation work for reading. Exploration will be taught the last 5 weeks. Exploration channels your child’s endless creative energy into directed dramatic play!
