South Carolina Children's Theatre holds open auditions for each of its productions at SCCT Headquarters located at 153 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29601. Each audition will be a bit different based on the type of show, the cast needed, and the director's requirements. Therefore, you will need to check the Audition Call for the specific production you are interested in.
Something NEW at SCCT…
You may see some people coming through the auditions without seeming to wait in line. Those auditionees are currently taking SCCT Classes and AS A PERK OF BEING A CURRENTLY ENROLLED SCCT STUDENT they received their audition forms in their classes to fill-out at home. We are holding early audition slots for them, which simply allows them to go right in to the audition without having to wait. If you enroll in future classes you can receive the same perk too.
SCCT’S EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Established in Greenville, SC in 1992, SCCT’s Theatre Arts Conservatory is a year-round program for children ages 3-18. The format includes Intensive Training, Production and Process Classes, and Workshops. Each format offers unique games, activities and challenges.
It is our belief that theatre arts training is like any other form of training, the more you do it, the better you get. Just as a dancer takes class after class of ballet; or a soccer player trains year after year with a team; theatre arts training is most effective when the student is repeatedly exposed to vocabulary, theories, and exercises. At SCCT, we hope to provide a variety of creative opportunities that encourage creative thinking, develop verbal and social skills and bolster self esteem.
Are you nervous about auditioning or would you like to be better prepared for the upcoming audition? SCCT offers the opportunity to better hone your auditioning skills with an Audition Prep Workshop.
FAQs about small children & auditions
We are often asked about very young children (pre K) who want to audition. Although we are grateful for the interest and thrilled your child has been "bitten by the theatre bug," we suggest a young child wait until they are a little older to audition for our mainstage shows (hence the posted age limits for audition calls) because the time commitment is so great and can be stressful for a young child. Our standard rehearsal process requires four nights a week from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm and tech week (the final week of rehearsal) requires cast members to be at the Gunter Theatre from 6:00 pm to after 10:00 pm every night. Absenteeism is NOT allowed and very young children are not typically equipped to handle the time commitment without getting sick, bored or GRUMPY and an unhappy child is not a pleasure for anybody. The very young should watch for auditions with our Second Stage which will have more opportunities for youngsters including child friendly rehearsal and performance times.
